Minutes of the Meeting
June 3, 2019
The meeting (held at Penndale Middle School, Lansdale, PA) was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Vice President Jack Wright. There were 35 members and a prospective member in attendance.
Secretary’s Report – The May minutes were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report – The current Treasury balance is $4744.60. Last year the Club gave the North Penn High School Car Club a $300 donation to support their activities. A motion was presented and approved to donate $300 this year to support their club.
Members to report on
Frank Gormley is now home; walking around, with some physical issues.
Barbara Gormley was diagnosed with pneumonia but is recovering.
Events to Report on
May 10 (Friday) –Mack Truck Museum. Tour Northern Bucks, Northampton and Lehigh Counties. A small turn-out (7 people), most likely due to it being on a Friday.
May 18 – Trexlertown Model A/AA Show and Swap – Good flea market; good turnout. Several Club members attended.
May 24 – North Penn High School Car Show (students’ cars and Club members’ cars). Went very well – 19 antique cars and 36-39 students’ cars. The school car club is very interested in visiting/touring some car garages; Ed Roth is working on this for the fall.
May 25 – Heidelberg UCC Church Car Show - No report
May 27 – Collegeville/Trappe Memorial Day Parade – “Honor WWII Veterans”. Service was wonderful. Several Club members participated. (Ken Valeri had problems with his car.) A lot of fun. Picnic afterwards at the Kriebel’s.
Future Events
June 15 – NPMAFC Picnic, Green Lane. Meet at Walmart, Harleysville at 10 am or go directly to the Park. Contact Beth Howard to sign up for food donations. The Club provides chicken and hamburgers, drinks and paper products. Ed Roth is making homemade peach ice cream, with peaches donated by Shirley Kernechel.
June 15 – Under the Lights Car Show, Main St, Lansdale – 7 pm. $13 pre-registration; $15 day of show. Entrance – Whites Rd. to Cannon Ave.
June 22 - Trinity Lutheran Church Car Show, Fairview Village – starts 11 am. A very nice show; expecting lots of cars. Contact Gary Volpe
July 4 – Oreland Parade. A nice parade through the community. Club members usually caravan to Oreland. Contact Carol Allen
July 4 – Skippack Parade. Contact Gary Volpe
July 6 – “Rebels & Red Coats” Car Show, Washington Crossing. (Rebels – American & French cars; Red Coats – British & German cars only) Contact Carol Allen
August 3 – Macungie breakfast at the Wood’s – 8 am, rain or shine. This is the 13th year that Dave and Sue Wood have hosted this breakfast. Help needed to set up and tear down. Call Dave Wood (610-287-6380) and let him know how many people are coming. “A mini car show before Macungie.”
Aug. 4-10 – MARC Meet, Dearborn, MI
Nov. 2 – Special tour of 3 Dog Garage, Boyertown for NPMAFC, DVR-AACA, Lehigh Valley Club. Details to follow.
**The Club needs ideas for car tours, etc. for September and the fall. Contact any officer with suggestions.**
Model A Restorers Club News
Mark Howard submitted an article on the Club’s activities for the July/August issue of the MARC magazine, Model “A” News. (His articles are published on the Club’s website, NPMAFC.com.)
Car Updates
Gerry Watson’s coupe was on EBay but did not sell.
Miscellaneous
The 50/50 raffle was won by Tony Russo (he thinks) and he donated the winnings back to the Club.
A suggestion was raised to move the meeting start time to 7:00 p.m. Discussion on this is tabled until the September meeting.
Program
John Elliott and Ivan Hess gave a presentation on “Lizzie Haven,” the Steinmetz car collection in Stowe, PA. In 1965 John bought a ’31 coupe for $150 and his father bought a ’26 Oakland Roadster for $150. John still has the Oakland. Ivan bought a ’28 roadster pick-up and a huckster truck, for $100 each. Approx. 270± cars (most Model A’s) in the field. All wheels and horns were taken off the vehicles, with the wheels put inside. A wonderful, very interesting presentation by John and Ivan. (The presentation slides are on the Club website under Photos.)
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Penndale Middle School.
Refreshments for the September meeting will be provided by Shirley Kernechel, Al Schneider, Fred Coyne, Marvin McKown.
