Minutes of the Meeting
June 4, 2018
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Phil Christ. The meeting was held at Penndale Middle School, Lansdale, PA. There were 30 members in attendance.
Secretary’s Report – The May minutes were read and approved as submitted.
Treasurer’s Report – The Treasury balance is $4922.84.
Members to report on
Don Driesbach received the card from club members and passed away the next day. Meeting attendees reminisced about Don at the meeting. He was a 60+ yr. member of AACA.
Gene Yeager fell and dislocated his shoulder. He fell a second time and dislocated his shoulder again and will be recuperating for 6-10 weeks.
Old Business
Raffle ticket sales for the artwork raffle have reached $240. Money in the charity fund ($167) will be added. Proceeds from Club items (old books, banners, etc. ) sold at the meeting will be added and the Club will round up the total amount to $500 to be donated to two veterans. Please contact Phil Christ or Ed Roth if you know of two worthy veterans. The artwork drawing will be held at the Club picnic on June 9.
Past Events
April 7 – AACA-DVR tour to Pennsbury Manor was very nice. This might be a good tour for our Club to do.
May 19 – Ambler Auto Show was very good.
May 24 - North Penn High School Car Show was very good. 25 cars participated, only 1 Model A. Some Club members came with other old cars. Ed Roth showed some videos from the show. We need to make a donation to the high school car club. Last year the club gave $250. A motion was voted and approved to donate $300 this year.
May 26 – Harleysville Memorial Day Parade, sponsored by the Rotary Club.
May 28 - Memorial Day Parade, Collegeville/Trappe. The Club was represented by 17 cars (22 people). The cars were at the beginning. Dave Wood brought his wooden car and gave rides to the kids. The crowd was very enthusiastic about the cars.
Upcoming Events
June 9 - NPMAFC Picnic, Green Lanen Park. Meet at Walmart Harleysville at 10:00 AM or go directly to the park at 11:00 AM. Bring covered dish; see Ruth Ann Christ for details. 43 people are signed up; lots of food. Frank Gormley volunteered to organize a tour from Walmart to Green Lane.
June 16 – Lansdale Under the Lights Show - Cancelled, but see replacement: Smaller show planned; see www.discoverlansdale.org for further info.
June 23 – Heidelberg UCC Church Car Show. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (1101 Cowpath Rd, Hatfield)
June 23 – Car Show and Country Fair – Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairview Village. www.trinityfairview.com
July 4 – Oreland Parade. See Carol Allen. Meeting time changed - depart Worcester School at 8:15 a.m. to arrive in order to be in the parade earlier.
August 4 – Macungie breakfast at the Woods. Come early, cooking begins at 8 a.m., then on to Macungie. RSVP Susan Wood.
August 26 – Perkiomen Twp. Fire Co. car show (Perkiomen Valley School District Campus, Rt. 29 & Trappe Rd, Gratersford)
Date TBD - Driving tour and car games at Mermaid Lake (possibly Oct. 20 or 27) Carol Allen coordinating.
TBD – Driving someone else’s Model A at North Penn High School (maybe in the fall)
Suggestion made for possible tour to Collegeville to tour historic buildings.
Miscellaneous
Ed Roth participated in the AACA Grand National in Greensburg, PA, June 2. His 1908 Ford S and his 1933 Ford both won the Senior Grand National Award.
Jay Ogle mentioned a friend’s daughter is getting married Aug. 12 and is looking for a Model A to ride in from the church in Malvern to Green Lane. If is interested, please contact Jay.
A friend of Ed White has a ’28 Model A for sale. Runs; looks good. There was discussion whether to post a non-member’s car on the Club website. Decision was made to request a donation of $10 to post ad.
Ruth Ann Christ has flyers for a tour to Ontario, Canada being organized by Gladys Ditzler, Sept. 14-16. Visit George Tackaberry’s collection including the largest number of antique trucks in Canada. Price is $305/person (double occupancy).
50/50 raffle was won by Gerry Watson.
Perry Rogers gave a talk about the cars he and his family have owned through the years.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
