Other Business

  • Jay Ogle‘s 1930 Deluxe Coupe is entered in the AACA Sr. Grand National Meet this week.  Good luck to Jay.
  • Barbara Schneider is selling Al’s 1931 burgundy coupe.  A beautiful car in great shape.
  • Jay Wise brought in a convertible frame for a 1928 or 29 is anyone is interested.  He is working on his 1929 Model A Woody.
  • Dick Longcoy is downsizing.  He is putting his 1911 Oakland in an auction taking place on April 19.  Dick brought in several touring maps from past years to share.  Dick also mentioned that he will be selling his Model A in the near future.
Dick shared an article from Machinist Workshop magazine on penetrating oils – “for frozen nuts, bolts and other objects that refuse to loosen”.A test of popular penetrants were tested with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from a “scientifically rusted” environment. Here are the results:
              Product                                              Torque to Loosen
              No oil                                                        516 lbs
              WD-30                                                      238 lbs
              PB Blaster                                                  214 lbs
              Liquid Wrench                                             127 lbs
              Krano Kroil                                                  106 lbs
              ATF acetone mix                                           53 lbs

The ATF-acetone mix is a “home brew” of 50% acetone and 50% automatic transmission fluid.  The ATF and acetone will separate if mixture is put on a shelf for later use.  Gently mix or shake before using.

Program
Doug Emerson gave an interesting history of his 1928 Roadster.  His father graduated from Doylestown High School in 1936.  Following high school, his father worked at several businesses, riding his bicycle.  He purchased the Roadster in 1939 for $38 from Conroy Ford in Doylestown.  On one doule-date, he had 4 people in the car.  Doug’s father drove the car from 1939 to 1955. He was a member of the Mercer A’s.  The car has been in the family since 1939.   It is mostly original; the top was done in 1971 but the window is original.  Doug brought lots of photos and a very old transistor radio that his father kept in the car.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed learning all about Doug’s father and the history of the car.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 6, at 7:00 pm at Trinity UCC Church, Skippack.  Refreshments will be provided by Allen, Wright, Dixon and Valeri.
