Minutes of the Meeting
April 1, 2019
The meeting (held at Penndale Middle School, Lansdale, PA) was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Phil Christ. There were 36 members in attendance.
Secretary’s Report – The March minutes were read and amended as follows. April 27 Tech session changed to May 4. May 11 tour of Bucks/Northampton/Lehigh area changed to Friday, May 10.
Treasurer’s Report – The current Treasury balance is $4677.10.
Members to report on
Annette Watson was admitted to Grandview Hospital today. She is on oxygen but in no pain. A card was passed around the meeting for everyone to sign.
Cheryl Emerson is ill.
Events to Report on
March 16 –National Museum of Industrial History and walking tour of the steel stacks, Bethlehem. 29 people attended. A very scenic drive to Bethlehem and through the Lehigh University campus. A quality museum that is associated with the Smithsonian and is expanding. A very interesting tour.
March 31 – Swap Meet – Morgantown Auto Mall. Approx. 5000 attendees.
Future Events
April 6 – “Manufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy” exhibit at Mercer Museum (84 S. Pine St., Doylestown). The exhibit, produced by The National World War II Museum in New Orleans, highlights contributions made on the American home front during World War II and follows the industrial journey that took the U.S. from a nation unprepared for war to a global superpower that led the Allies to victory by producing tanks, planes, ships and guns. Charge - $10/person. Meet at the museum at 10:30 am. Lunch at 12:30 pm at Perkins Restaurant (4319 Swamp Road, Cross Keys Place, Doylestown). Diane Hall coordinating.
May 4 – Tech Session at Old Forge, Lansdale. Carol Allen coordinating. “Cars & Coffee” is back every Saturday; $1 donation/person.
May 10 (Friday) – Tour Northern Bucks, Northampton and Lehigh Counties (Shirley says, “A long ride so gas up the car”). Tour the Mack Truck Museum; $5 donation/person is suggested. Lunch at the Superior Restaurant. Meet at 9:45 am at Richland Crossing Mall (park at Regal Cinema behind Walmart), Quakertown. Shirley Kernechel coordinating
May ? – North Penn High School Car Show
May 18 – Trexlertown Model A/AA Show and Swap - 9 am–3 pm. Goodwill Fire Company, 7723 Hamilton Blvd, Breinigsville, PA
May 18 – Car show (antique cars wanted) and fair – 9 am–3 pm. Donation of $5 goes to a children’s charity. Lots of street rods. American Heritage Credit Union, 2060 Red Lion Rd, Philadelphia.
May 18 – Ambler Car Show – 1-5 pm. Butler Avenue
May 27 – Collegeville/Trappe Memorial Day Parade. “Our Club and the cars are the highlights of the parade.” Meet at 9 am at Augustus Lutheran Church (717 W. Main St., Trappe). Howard Kreibel coordinating.
June 15 – NPMAFC Picnic, Green Lane Park. Food sign-ups at the May meeting. Meet at Walmart, Harleysville at 10 am or go directly to the Park. See Ruth Ann Christ for details.
Model A Restorers Club News
Mark Howard submitted an article on our Club’s recent activities to the MARC magazine, Model “A” News, for the May/June issue. Mark will continue to submit Club activities to the magazine.
Frank Falcone is on the MARC Touring Committee and discussed the new judging book. Frank and Bob Martino will attend the MARC National Meet in Dearborn, Aug. 4-10. The Club would like them to talk about it at a meeting this fall.
Car Updates
Dave Whitmire passed out business cards for a radiator shop in Pottstown that he recommends.
The 50/50 raffle was won by Gary Volpe.
Tech Session
Tom Hudecki and Jim Ford discussed shocks for the Model A. Approx. 5 attendees have shocks on their Model A’s. Shocks are a good safety addition. “If you only put 2 shocks on the car, put them on the front.”
Radial tires for the Model A were discussed. If radials are used, tubes must be installed and the wheels balanced. Consensus seemed to be that radials are good if you do extensive driving. The ride is smoother and it’s easier on the car.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
The next meeting will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Penndale Middle School.
